Exercise 1: Presentation of 10 of your best-liked pictures

Lecture
The first class gave me an insight to what we could expect from Mr. Vinod's class. And of course some interesting info on who Mr. Vinod is. I was super impressed and shockd to learn that Mr. Vinod has had some awesome time and work done in the photography industry. Seeing the pictures he had captured and shared to us made me feel as though maybe all of us in class ought to learn a thing or two from our lect!

Although it might take a while for me to search for a manual camera and the other equipments, I'm pretty sure I'm able to get one in time before the next class!

Instructions
• Write your e-portfolio and upload the 10 images along with the description.
• Print A4 hardcopy of the 10 selected images with the description following the instructions (margin, font, etc.) given in class and place it in your hardcopy (portfolio) folder.

Specific Instructions for Exercise 1:
In this exercise students will explain the reasons they like the chosen images, what they found interesting when taking/choosing or after taking/choosing the images. Students will present 5 images of their own and 5 images of 5 different photographers from different continents/countries. You must credit the photographers and explain the backstory. By this process students exercise their ability to discern and reflect on what makes a good image is theoretically.

5 Best-liked Own Pictures

Heart breaker with a pretty face, like the expensive brand Chanel; seeing both sides was rather breathtaking yet heart-aching. The two flowers represented two sides which she had.
Location : Bangkok, Thailand.
Device : iPhone 7+

3.P.M in front of my condo and the view of the sky was rather.. dark and gloomy with a slight hint of sunlight fading away. It didn't rain that day which seemed a little odd to me.
Location : Kampung Batu Muda, Malaysia
Device : Samsung A7

Candid shot! The light bulb shinning extra bright on top of her head creates a smooth and warm lighting for the picture. And she had just thought of what to consume for lunch.
Location : Wondermama, Bangsar
Device: Samsung A7

Taking this picture was a miracle because it was taken with a self-timer and I wasn't really sure how the focus would end up looking as it usually blurs everything out. Setting the camera down and knowing where to pose was funny and also the hardest part but it paid out!
Location : Camp5, One Utama
Device : Samsung A7

The ambience that night was rather warm. Dinner with my younger brother and he absolutely hates it when I sneakily snaps a picture of him. But he sure does appreciates a good meal ticket.
Location : Kari Kepala Ikan, Gombak
Device : Samsung A7

5 Best-liked Pictures from Different Photographers

Usain Bolt, fastest runner in the world. Like taking candy from a baby, he easily wins the race with a smile on his face. Needless to say this picture shows that he is on another kind of level.
Photographer : Cameron Spencer

Vladimir Putin. "It is illegal to touch Putin past the wrist." This portrait of Vladimir Putin speaks of only power and cold authority. Ironically, it is the same portrait claimed by his opposition to be used against him to show everything wrong with power in the wrong hands. Not only his opposition but the LGBT or Gay rights movements as well.
Photographer : Platon

Just wow, this landscape captured in black and white is just mesmerizing. How does one have such an eye for a hypnotizing picture? It only makes me even more excited to indulge into what we're about to learn from the class!
Photographer : Micheal Kenna

A selfie for the ages I would say! Scott Kelly showing us that his selfie game is on a whole different level! Planet Earth sure never fails to give us a beautiful sight even from an outer space perspective.
Photographer : Scott Kelly

Refugee crisis. This picture not only speaks the hard truth that we still live in an ugly world today, but it is a reminder that we still have so much to work on as humans. Viewing this only brings sadness, but without it we wouldn't be able to fully comprehend the scale of crisis these people are going through.

Feedback

Reflection

Feedback - Mr. Vinod said that he noticed I liked taking pictures of landscape and people. From the posts I've posted above, I guess his statement is true!

ExperienceIt was hard trying to pick the best pictures for this assignment. I don't consider myself as a photogenic kind of person and definitely don't take lots of photos. But this assignment sparked an interest in me which I never thought I would have. To be honest I am really excited to continue my journey in this class to learn more about photography!

Observation - I had always knew that I was never an arts kind of person, but going through pictures of my phone I just realized that subconsciously I like taking landscape pictures of the sky. I think something about the clouds really intrigued me, and the colors blending together.

Findings - In a sense, I think I am starting to appreciate pictures more than I used to see them. It's kinda eye opening to view things from a really passionate perspective rather than just see it as just a picture.
